Installation (2009)

part of the Arrow Factory exhibition Just Around the Corner in collaboration with Patty Chang

A working fountain was installed on the roof of the Arrow Factory in time for the National Day celebrations. Red flags adorned every corner of the hutong. Patty covertly transports native weeds from Brooklyn, New York. The weeds are placed into pantyhose for protection and then introduced into the roof environment, re-planted on Arrow Factory's rooftop. Thesplashing water from the fountain inadvertantly water the weeds. As winter approaches, gale force winds blow the fountain apparatus off the roof, thereby de-insalling the piece for us (luckily no one was hurt). Currently the piece awaits the emergence of the weeds next spring to see if they survived the unseasonably cold beijing winter.
